All courses follow the IAM's "Skill for Life" programme. You can register for this course via Head Office for the IAM, or through the group by contacting us via the e-mail address at the foot of this page.
Whilst all groups run their courses slightly differently, the quality of delivery of the course is guaranteed by the Observer Qualification that observers must undertake.
As a group, Stockport run the course to the following structure:
1 x Classroom/Introduction session - covering the basics of Advanced Driving, introducing the observer team and providing opportunity for any questions
1 x Meet The Examiner evening - a chance to meet an IAM examiner and ask any questions you may have
6 x 2 hour (approximately) observed runs, including a demonstration drive in runs 1 and 5, and a "Check Drive" at run 5 to assess suitability for going forward with the IAM Qualification. The runs take place on Sundays, approximately every 2 weeks.
We can be quite flexible in course delivery, and if a run is missed your individual programme continues at the next run. However, we would recommend trying to attend as many runs in sequence as possible as we are all prone to forgetting new knowledge over 2 weeks! We aim to be a friendly group, providing support from introduction session through to completing the IAM Qualification, and you will be allocated a Tutor Observer who can answer any questions you may have.
Courses run from Both Stockport & Wilmslow
