Advanced Driver Courses

The couse delivered by Stockport Advanced Motorists is IAM RoadSmart's Advanced Driver Course. You can register for this course via IAM Roadsmart Head Office, or through S.A.M. by contacting us via the email address at the foot of this page.

Whilst all groups run their courses slightly differently, the quality of delivery of the course is guaranteed by the IMI Accredited Observer qualification that every observer must hold.

Stockport Advanced Motorists run the course to the following structure:

1 x Classroom/Introduction session - covering the basics of Advanced Driving, introducing the observer team and providing opportunity for any questions

1 x Meet The Examiner evening ("classroom 2") - a chance to meet an IAM examiner and ask any questions you may have

Six to ten two-hour (approximately) observed runs, including a demonstration drive in runs 1 and 5, and a "Check Drive" to assess suitability for going forward for the IAM Roadsmart test. The runs take place on Sundays, approximately every 2 weeks.

We can be quite flexible in course delivery, and if a run is missed your individual programme continues at the next run. However, we would recommend trying to attend as many runs in sequence as possible as we are all prone to forgetting new knowledge over 2 weeks! We aim to be a friendly group, providing support from introduction session through to completing the IAM Roadsmart qualification, and you will be allocated an Observer who can answer any questions you may have.
