Eddie Harrison - IAM Member 171778
Earlier in January, Eddie Harrison passed away after a short illness.
Eddie was one of the nicest people you could hope to meet and became a much-loved friend and good colleague to all of us in Stockport Advanced Motorists and other local IAM Groups.
Eddie joined IAM as a full member in April 1985 and became Stockport AM Group Chairman shortly thereafter, along with taking on the role of Associate Coordinator, a role he continued with and enjoyed throughout his IAM life.
He was very much a “people person” and this very much showed with his calmness and innate ability when dealing with Associates, whether in the classroom or car. This was usually linked with perfect logic (expected from an early worker on computers) and humour. Either way Eddie always got his point across amicably.
Eddie had been an Observer for as long as we can remember and in 1986 became the Group’s Chief Observer and only stopped Observing a few years ago.
Over the years he has provided much wise counsel to both long-term committee members and as well as new associates and members. He has been a "rock" for the Group.
He never retired from the Committee!
Eddie has been responsible for the Group Newsletter for at least 20 years, producing and editing fresh copy every month up until a few years ago when output was reduced to every other month. He was well known for his Crosswords and Sudukos which he produced for every edition.
In the past he was a permanent part of the Stockport AM contingent running the skidpan at Hyde Road bus depot until it closed, providing many a local driver with a good understanding of skid control and driving in slippery conditions.
He was always involved, and indeed, created many of the Group’s social activities.
Great fun was had at some of his quiz evenings and his map reading / navigation competitions using ordnance survey maps. He also helped in staffing the IAM caravan and later our gazebo at various promotional events in and around Stockport.
He was a stalwart of the group for 40 years and will be sadly missed.
Goodbye Eddie – We will all miss you.
